Component Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY
The Component Engineer role is responsible for working with hardware development to qualify/sustain parts, ensuring that the quality of our products and the interface to manufacturing is at its very best, while verifying worldwide environmental compliance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluating function, reliability, and availability of components used in new and legacy JDSU products.
- Specifying and evaluating components and assemblies in accordance with system requirements and company standards.
- Ensuring completeness of component specifications, including functional qualification, regulatory compliance, inspection, and testing criteria.
- Assisting, tracking and resolving end of life and lifetime buy issues.
- Assisting in finding alternate sources and substitutes.
- Working with team members to standardize components, consolidate usage and reduce life time costs.
- Driving regulatory compliance efforts, such as REACH and RoHS.
- Assisting with supplier support issues.
- Assisting with calculation of product MTBF.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS
- Must have demonstrated abilities in component engineering.
- Must have knowledge of component testing and failure analysis.
- Must have knowledge of reliability analysis.
- Must be able to read a circuit schematic.
- Requires expert knowledge in the area of specifying electronic components and assemblies for new and legacy equipment.
- Must be able to present information clearly and efficiently between team members verbally and in writing.
- Excellent skills in the areas of writing and verbal communications are required.
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS
- BSEE,plus a minimum of 3 years industry experience
- Experienced working with suppliers, contract manufacturers, procurement, doc control, product managers, etc.
- Self-motivated, team player, good written and verbal communications skills.
- Supplier management experience working within an outsource environment.
- Knowledgeable about BOM structures, MS Word, MS Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Agile PLM/PCM.
- Skilled at RoHS/REACH BOM compliance requirements.
- English and Chinese Language – verbal and written fluency
- BSEE degree plus minimum of 3 years of directly related experience or equivalent required.
