Client Development Research and Planning Coordinator

Title: Client Development Research Coordinator
Location: Shanghai

Reports to: Client Development Research and Planning Manager and
Secondary Report: Director for Asia Practice Management & Business Development
Supervise: None
Key Objectives:
• Under the supervision of the Client Development Research and Planning Manager:
o conduct research to support the Firm’s planning and business development efforts and interface with other Client Development team members firmwide.
o provide qualified leads for new litigation engagements to partners and practices firmwide.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Engage in research and analysis and competitive intelligence-gathering for strategic planning, competitive firm positioning, and client-development and business-expansion activities for any assigned Practice(s) and support Practice and Office Liaisons in doing same for their assigned Department and Practice(s)
o Provide support to firm lawyers in assigned Department and Practice(s) in developing and executing practice development and market research activities, including strategic market, competitor, regional, industry, client, and prospective client research and analysis
• Research and analyze markets, trends, geographies, clients, and prospects to support the Firm’s business development efforts
• Vet and investigate newly filed or soon-to-be-filed lawsuits against clients, obtain complaints (if available), and gather background information about the company
o become familiar and adept with using the various sources providing litigation leads
o research/look-up information about company and their executives, law firm contacts, and litigation history
• Maintain lit spotting tracking database and provide ongoing analysis of lit spotting data
Background & Requirements:
• A minimum of an undergraduate degree in a marketing, research, business, English, or communications-related field, or appropriate experience in a related field
• Strong English reading, written, oral and comprehension skills
• Detail-oriented, organized and strong follow through
• Demonstrated good judgment, a team-first orientation, meticulous and results driven
• Familiarity with MS Excel, Word, Outlook and SharePoint
• Research and analysis skills, intellectually curious and possesses strong Internet research skills; familiarity or some knowledge of US based companies preferred.
• Ideally, preference of someone with some litigation background or previous experience at a law firm. Experience in lead generation or some exposure to marketing/business development.
• Willing to work overtime as needed

A minimum of 1 to 3 years of work experience and a bachelor’s degree is preferred, but will consider new graduates with related technical degrees. Must be detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills. The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious and have strong research skills.
Must possess strong comprehension, written and verbal English communication skills. Successful candidate will be highly customer service oriented, technologically savvy, organized, able to multi-task, demonstrate good judgment, prioritize, and exhibit sound political judgment in a multiple leader, team oriented, fast paced environment.
