Academic Director for Public Speaking and Debate

Job Title— Academic Director for Debate and Public Speaking (Full-Time)
Start Date—August 2013
Location— Shanghai, China (training in Palo Alto, CA)
Cardinal Education is seeking an Academic Director to join a successful team of educational consultants who provide top-tier admissions advising, tutoring, and test prep. The Academic Director for Debate and Public Speaking will operate in Shanghai, China as a member of Cardinal Education—China, the firm’s latest expansion.

The Academic Director for Debate and Public Speaking will operate part of the firm’s management consulting team. This team will be responsible for the promotion of a revolutionary admissions, tutoring, and test prep curriculum distinct from those of area competitors.
While the Academic Director of Debate and Public Speaking must possess expert knowledge of (at least) English composition and critical reading, they should also have demonstrated experience with public speaking and rhetoric. Furthermore, the Academic Director of Debate and Public Speaking will develop skills in management and client relations critical to leadership and executive positions.
The position offers critical responsibilities in exchange for professional growth and opportunities. The Academic Director will receive extensive support from Cardinal’s main branch in Palo Alto, California. Cardinal Education offers a high rate of upward mobility to all members, including transfer opportunities to leadership positions at one of our Bay Area branches.

Position Responsibilities
•Teach English public speaking, debate, and rhetorical skills to ELL students
•Maintain frequent communication with relevant stakeholders and home site executives, as well as Shanghai management and clientele
•Develop internal protocol for operations, professional training and development
•Develop administrative and marketing materials for students and their families
•Develop curriculum for our reading, writing and rhetoric programs
•Delegate and management employee responsibilities
•Recruit, hire and train tutors, content developers and reading specialists (as needed)
•Thrive in an ambitious and fast-paced yet supportive environment
Eligibility Requirements
•Must be willing to work evenings and weekends (as needed)
•Must be willing to relocate to Shanghai, China for a minimum of one year
•Must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree (Master’s Degree or Ph. D preferred)
•Must have completed at least one degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D.) at one of following institutions—UC Berkeley, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Penn, Princeton, Yale, Georgetown, University of Chicago, Duke, or Stanford.
Experience Requirements
Applicants Must Demonstrate:
•Ability to develop, manage and complete individual projects
•Ability to join with and complete team projects
•Exceptional personal organization
•Exceptional writing and communication skills
•Exceptional eye to detail and procedural efficiency
•Extensive experience with Microsoft or Macintosh operating systems
•Extensive experience with Microsoft Office suite and Google Documents suite
•Capacity to manage and motivate professional peers
•Capacity to manage and motivate students
•Strong commitment to self-directed deadlines and goals
•Strong commitment to personal growth and development
•Significant experience with public speaking and rhetoric
•Significant experience with English composition and critical reading
•Significant experience teaching or tutoring English composition, critical reading and public speaking (preferred)
•Desire to network with and persuade potential stakeholders (preferred)
•Previous full-time work experience not necessary but is preferred
•Language ability in Mandarin Chinese is NOT required but is a plus
•Fluency in English, with preference for native English accent

The preferred individual will demonstrate a high level of self-organization and self-motivation, a strong work ethic and a balanced view to the demands of an entrepreneurial venture. They will posses a high level of confidence in their personal abilities and invite constructive criticism.
