Assistant Special Education Teacher
at The Essential Learning Group in Shanghai
Details:
Participates as a full member of ILC and the program in all activities.
Assist children in the program room as directed by the Program Leader. Supports with program activities, assignments and/or preparing materials under the direction of the Program Leader or Specialist for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing program room objectives. Program Assistants will be expected to develop the required skills to lead program activities in writing/reading/math/social/ speech-language therapies/occupational/physical therapies, and other activities.
Work cooperatively with the Program Leader and other Program Assistants in the room;
Inform the Program Leader immediately when there is an emergency or safety issues. Safety is every staff’s top priority and any safety or emergency issues must be reported immediately.
Assist with pre-lunch and lunch activities (e.g. heating food, feeding, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the team and personnel to get the children fed.
Become fully knowledgeable of the content of each child’s Individualized Education Plan and develop the skills to deliver specific IEP goals.
Attend weekly meetings with Program Leader and other Specialists; receive in-service training; communicate with Program Leader, team and professional support personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives;
Design bulletin boards for the purpose of making the room and areas more attractive and for conveying information;
Perform clerical tasks (e.g. making copies, filing, etc.)as needed for the purpose of supporting the team to get instructional materials ready;
Maintain instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records (e.g. lessons, attendance, pencils, paper, teaching supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing written reference, and/or meeting mandated requirements;
Supervise children during assigned periods within a variety of program environments (e.g. lunch, van, playground, room, restroom, field trips, assemblies, kitchen, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment;
Assist and lead groups and/or individual according to directions in order to get hands-on experience at times
Collaborate with other staff to help a child improve. This can include regular education, academic, support stuff, physical, occupational and speech therapies and administration;
Maintain records and track results in relation to a child’s progress;
Serve as a source of information and support in the room;
Serve on committees and take responsibilities for additional tasks as requested or needed;
Assist in other program rooms or the Clinic/Learning Annex as needed.
Requirements:
Teaching certificate/college degree in the field of education preferred but not required.
Experience in educational, therapeutic settings preferred but not required.
Must be passionate about working with children and wanting to learn and develop skills. All staff must be open to feedback on a personal and professional level for becoming a better Program Assistant.
English is required for leading program activities but being a native English speaker is not required.
