Head of English Department
at Foreign HR in Beijing
Location: Beijing
Client introduction:
Our client is a collaboration of experts in the fields of education, research and school management established by alumni of Harvard and Northwestern universities, with representatives of international Montessori organizations. Since its founding, it has utilized educational philosophies and models of successful school management from around the world to improve China's early education sector and establish the country’s premier institution of bilingual early education.
Responsibilities:
1. Instructional
Provide academic leadership, guidance and support to all English teachers all year
Assist teachers in the development of lesson plans and teaching materials
Work with all teachers to improve instruction and curriculum delivery
Expand the competency of teachers to instruct in areas of English language learning
Model and/or arrange for demonstrations of instructional methods and pedagogy
Act as a coach and mentor when appropriate to assist teachers to improve and expand their repertoire of instructional activities
Identify developmental needs of teachers and organize and conduct monthly department meetings and trainings, workshops and professional development
2. Staff Supervision and Evaluation
Regularly observe, supervise and evaluate English teachers’ instruction and curriculum delivery (at least once a month)
Provide appropriate feedback, address issues/concerns, and identify follow-up tasks when conducting field visits
Support teachers in all phases of the evaluation and professional development system
Observe and evaluate each teacher being formally evaluated during probation period
Alert supervisors of any issues/concerns in need of immediate attention/resolution
3. Planning, Research, Program Evaluations
Prepare and submit curricular change recommendations
Assist the administration in research projects
Cooperate with other members of the Academic Committee in developing programs
4. Personnel Services
Make recommendations and supervise the hiring, retaining, or releasing of English teachers
Follow policies and guidelines in dealing with teacher requests
Provide orientation for new teachers
5. Administrative
Prepare and manage the department budget
Maintain an accurate inventory of department equipment and supplies
Maintain department files, database, records and reports
6. Liaison Duties
Serve as liaison between English Teachers, other teaching staff, campus administrators, parents and Head Office, where necessary and appropriate
7. School Operations
Follow school procedures and guidelines regarding daily operations of campuses/schools
8. Policies and Procedures
Follow school board policies and administrative procedures
Requirements:
1. Master degree or equivalent in Education.
2. TEFL certificate preferred; Montessori Certificate preferred.
3. 2-5 years academic management/leadership experience.
4. Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in the field of ESL and early childhood.
5. Experience as an instructional leader.
6. Experience working in an international school (in China) preferred.
7. Strong interpersonal, communication and communications skills.
Salary and benefits:
1. Basic Salary: 25,000-35,000CNY/month (based on experienced plus benefits).
2. Holidays: Chinese National Holidays
