Business Development Co-ordinator (International Law Firm)
at Vinson & Elkins in Beijing or Shanghai
The Business Development Coordinator will support the marketing and business development activities that achieve the strategic business development goals of the lawyers and practice groups resident in the firm’s Asia offices (Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Tokyo). This professional will work closely with the Global Business Development Manager – Asia to identify strategies and opportunities to expand client relationships; monitor and report on industry trends and issues that impact clients’ businesses; conduct comprehensive client research and analysis; prepare pitches and proposals; develop and update firm brochures, bios and practice group descriptions; plan and manage practice specific events, webinars and other functions; as well as lead the collection of various rankings and practice group accolades. This professional is expected to be proactive and capable of executing projects under limited supervision and reports to the Global Business Development Manager - Asia.
Responsibilities include:
• Preparing detailed and customized pitches/proposals and RFP responses in English and/or Chinese. Managing all Asia entries into the RFP database including win/loss analysis
• Preparing the Asia Practices submissions to legal directories and league tables, drafting compelling legal award entry submissions and managing collection of regional rankings and firm accolades
• Managing credential collection for the Asia Practices, and ensuring essential “off-the-shelf” business development materials (brochures, standard bid text and descriptions, biographies, experience statements, deal lists and presentations) are kept up-to-date both in English and Chinese
• Conducting client, practice, industry, competitor, and trend research via firm-wide resources, online databases, and librarian searches. Staying abreast of best practices and market trends, and providing competitor research to assist the Global Business Development Manager in making strategic recommendations to the attorneys in the region
• Supporting regional media and public relations efforts
• Assisting with the preparation of client e-lerts and other firm publications in English and/or Chinese including liaising with the Houston E-Comms and Publishing teams and updating client distribution lists
• Assisting with event planning and management, including vendor interaction and cost summaries
• Assisting with reviewing and executing sponsorship opportunities
• Maintaining website content, lawyer biographies and other regional marketing/ communications materials in English and Chinese
• Maintaining a variety of databases and tracking information in the firm’s CRM system
• Providing consistently excellent customer service both internally and externally with proactive follow-up on requests to ensure that needs are met
• Working with the CMO, Director and other BD Managers as needed to support firm wide marketing initiatives such as client service teams, training, and other programs that may arise
• Additional projects and administrative support as needed.
Qualifications, attributes and experience required:
• Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of business or marketing experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment
• Fluent written and verbal skills in English and Mandarin are essential
• Superior analytical and research skills as well as strong technical proficiencies, particularly in the use of CRM/contact databases, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and on-line research databases.
• Superior writing, editing, and communication skills
• Previous experience of working in a professional services environment would be advantageous
• Ability to work and perform well under strict deadlines with strong organizational capabilities to execute multiple projects simultaneously
• Positive and proactive attitude to problem solving and a willingness to tackle a wide variety of tasks
• Effective communication skills and ability to work well with people at all levels within the organization and externally
• Strong judgment skills and highly detail-oriented
• Confident, positive self-starter who can build good relationships with attorneys and staff across offices
• Flexibility to work additional hours as needed
