The Position & Candidate
There is a new exciting opportunity to join an international business as the Head of Operations in Shanghai,
SFD are looking for an organised, experienced, enthusiastic, trustworthy and professional person to manage the Shanghai office and continue to develop the Asia business
As the business is expanding the company are looking for an individual to grow with the business and will need to be cross skilled in a number of areas and experienced in managing multiple operations & people in China along with previous experience of working in the EU or US
The role will encompass various responsibilities and will involve working closely with the company directors in the UK with key focus on the delivery of international projects including overall responsibility for procurement, production management, quality control, administration and financial functions of the business
The close management and development of the local team in Shanghai is a core function of the role and the successful applicant will need to clearly and concisely communicate with the different departments of the business and therefore will have a deep understanding of local culture whilst also fluent in written and oral English
The head of operations will have high commercial acumen and be competent in running a business with close cost management both on the delivery of projects to agreed budgets and the day to day office expenses with regular reporting.
The candidate would have experience of working in an international company and be a highly committed and ambitious person with a positive outlook on life, a sense of humour and enjoy working as part of a team whilst applying themselves in a structured direction and thriving on the responsibility of the role
The successful person will be have strong leadership & management qualities and will be goal and detail orientated, experience in the store fixture, visual merchandising & retail industry would be advantageous
Responsibilities:
Procurement & Production:
Receiving projects valued from £50k upwards to global rollouts from all areas of the international business
Clearly understanding the brief and assigning responsibilities internally within the team
Identify areas of development of the brief and liaise with creative technical departments where required
Managing the team of buyers to ensure tenders and quotations are submitted on time with best price
Ensuring projects quoted accurately, complete to the agreed specifications and in correct format
Involved in final negotiation with network of factories to ensure best price achieved
Identify and communicate facility strengths and benefits with recommendation per project/tender
Oversee and sign off of all costs per project before submission
Build strong relationships with internal buyers, production facility partners and the SFD UK procurement team
Manage the internal Production & Quality Control team to ensure that live orders are delivered on time and on budget to the highest quality levels with regular transparent reporting with clear cost management
Work with the head of supply chain manager to ensure ethical and environmental compliance across all production facilities as well as development of existing and new suppliers
Quickly identify any issues and advise problem-solving solutions
Concise communication throughout the business
Motivate and manage the personnel in the department ensuring optimum productivity and enjoyable work life
Shape and grow the department as the company expands with implementation of new procedures
Strategic planning fro Asia with the UK directors
Finance & Reporting
Overall management of the financial function at the China office
Manage the company budget along with future forecasting and cost saving initiatives
Work with the finance manager to ensure all payments to supply chain for projects and office are processed accurately and on time
Prepare, analyse, and submit financial, organizational and administrative reports to head office
Regular reporting on company status, projects and finances to the board
Work with external accounting company to ensure month/year end compliance and tax regulations
Ensure compliance with SFD group financial and company policies
Office & Personnel Management
Ensuring that all internal company procedures are followed
Recruitment as required for company growth
Inspire, motivate, manage and encourage the team with regular performance reviews
Identify areas of improvement within the operation and proactively implement solutions
Clear reporting and presentations to business directors on company and personnel performance
Implementing and promoting equality and diversity policy in line with company guidelines
Responsibility for the running of a successful business in China
Formulate and implement management decisions
Regular meetings with clients and sfd personnel when visiting the China business
