Native English-speaking, experienced translator sought for 3-month CH-EN project
at EXC Translation (Anywhere)
Dear all,
I am looking for a number of translators to assist in the Chinese-English translation of a 780,000-character religious document. The book needs to be finished within three months, so translators will be required to complete around 5,000-10,000 characters per week for 12 weeks. Translators will likely be offered more work following the completion of this project, should they desire it.
The texts are hard and the client is demanding when it comes to quality. As a result, translators should expect at least two rounds of exhaustive feedback for every doc they complete. I have personally translated around 300,000+ characters of this material over the last year and half, and can provide extensive glossaries and translation memories that will help a bit; this will of course require the use of translation software (I use OmegaT, which is free).
Aside from what is expected of any translation – accurate understanding of the source text and natural-sounding, well-written and understandable rendering in English – a good attitude is vital for this project. The feedback comes from the client’s own editing team, and I have found them to be extremely competent. There will be a lot of feedback, but (unlike with a lot of client feedback) most if not all of it will be justified. They are also very patient when it comes to explaining idioms and other vocabulary. In return you will have a steady supply of work for at least three months, and there will likely be more to come for a long time after that. Rates are generous.
If you are interested in this work, your CV and translation samples to sam@exc-translation.com. You will also be requested to complete a short test translation.
