U.S. College Consultant
at Shanghai U-Learn Education Group in Shanghai
About the Role:
• Serve as a knowledgeable expert and counselor for a given number of Chinese high school students who are interested in studying in the United States for undergraduate college & university studies
• Represent U-Learn through both in- and out-of-office activities and programs
• All training is provided on location
Principal Accountabilities:
• Provide guidance to high school students on proper strategies for the college application process
• Advise students on their college essay topics
• Guide students through the college essay writing process and provide insight on editing and proofreading where necessary
• Advise students with college interviews
• Advise prospective boarding school students with interview and essay guidance
• Contribute to student group workshops
• Contribute to weekly in-company meetings regarding strategies, student portfolios, and planning
• Assist in planning US college admissions officers’ visits to U-Learn school campuses, and accompany admissions officers when necessary
Requires (Functional/Technical Skills & Knowledge):
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Willingness to communicate with students both during normal working and non-working hours (College application seasons)
• Teaching, mentoring, and/or tutoring skills
• Firm understanding of the US college application process
• Satisfactory command of English language and grammar, both oral and written
• Working 40 hours a week (5 days) including one weekend day.
• Prior experience with the SAT/ACT system and tests
Required / Recommended Background & Experience:
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in English (or related majors)
• 1-2 years of college essays consulting and editing experience
• Valid TESOL/TEFL/CELTA certificate OR 2 years of post-graduate working experience
• Previous experience with ESL and/or high school students (preferred)
• Recent graduates fromTop US colleges are strongly encouraged to apply
