Operations Manager / Quality Manager role for a Sourcing Company based in Zhuhai, Guangdong, China
A small Western-owned China-based sourcing company located in Zhuhai (Guangdong Province) requires a foreigner to fill the dual role of Operations Manager / Sourcing Manager, starting part-time and possibly leading to full-time if desired.
This role would suit an experienced senior SME manufacturing or quality professional living in China and looking for a part-time role initially while they pursue other projects or semi-retirement.
The successful applicant will have a manufacturing, quality control and mechanical engineering background, and significant management experience ideally in other SME sourcing and manufacturing companies in China or Asia.
This is a very hands-on role, where you will actively manage a small team of engineers, customer service and QC staff, and oversee all projects as well as all supplier relationships (including visits to factories up to 20% of your time). Thus your work habit should be to multitask, dealing with lots of details, solving problems, as well as managing and supporting your team.
You will have significant autonomy to develop, motivate and manage a team of around 10-15 Chinese employees to ensure on-time delivery of products at the right quality to overseas clients. Part of your role will be to mentor and train local staff (including engineers), as well as develop new improved operational processes and ensure compliance with systems. You will monitor the risk of all manufacturing projects and take appropriate mitigation steps, and respond quickly to any quality or timeliness issues. You will be the key technical contact for staff and clients with manufacturing related issues. You will also work with marketing, sales and clients to develop new business relationships and strengthen existing ones. You will be working with suppliers to eradicate and avoid any corruption and to improve their manufacturing capabilities where required.
This is a foreigner position, and preference will be given to those from the United Kingdom, Australia, Netherlands, Canada, Scandinavia or USA (where our clients are based), however applicants from Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and other countries outside China will be considered.
Essential Requirements:
Foreigner with native or near-native level English
University degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or similar
10+ years hands-on engineering experience with a wide range of metal and plastic manufacturing processes and materials
5+ years experience working in Asia in manufacturing-related role
10+ years management experience, at least 5+ years in senior management
5+ years experience managing a small organisation (less than 50 people), preferably a small trading or sourcing company.
Advantages:

Fluency in Mandarin Chinese.
Travel:
You will need to travel in Guangdong around 10% of your time, other provinces in China around 10% of your time, and overseas up to 2% of your time.
Compensation:
The successful candidate will be offered a part-time / casual rate of around US$33 (CNY200) per hour initially (negotiable), plus incentives to be agreed.

Zhuhai is a resort and retirement small seaside city with a population of around 1.6 million, and considered by many as one of the most liveable cities in China. The seaside city centre is within walking distance of Macau, and one hour transport from Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. There are cheap flights available from Macau to destinations around Asia.
