Primary School ESL Teacher

Job Title: ESL Teacher
Salary: 20,000 – 23,000 RMB after tax (plus benefits)

Responsibilities:
1. Program
Planning, organizing and preparing classes, including developing detailed lesson plans; Instruction must be consistent and coordinated with school’s ESL program so that students meet and exceed learning targets and the requirements outlined in the ESL curriculum;
Develops and delivers lesson plans utilizing a broad range of appropriate differentiated techniques and strategies addressing all aspects of communication that develop each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in content areas at levels that ensure learners meet or exceed learning targets, and allow English learners to meaningfully access school’s ESL instructional program;
Developing learning materials that support the learning objectives and planned activities;
Instructing ESL classes to small groups of students using a variety of active and engaging teaching strategies/learning activities and student assessment methods;
Managing the ESL corner or classrooms effectively including maintaining good student discipline and supporting the discipline standards and rules of the School
Assisting in the provision of daily supervision of students as required or assigned
Contributing to the School’s extra-curricular program and participating in other school activities such as proofreading of English letters or documents, serving as a judge for English contests, cooperating in receiving visitors, and generally attending admission or marketing activities on weekend as required by the School.
Demonstrating flexibility in meeting school’s and students’ changing requirements as conditions may require over time.
Performs those activities listed in the teacher’s handbook as appropriate and applicable.
Administers academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student’s progress in meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition. Maintains complete and accurate records of student’s progress and evidence of growth and progress.
Provides a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment with high expectations that encourage student responsibility, enhance motivation, clearly communicate classroom routines, and incorporate challenging instructional strategies.
Facilitates frequent and effective home‐school communication by coordinating: conferences; written communication; parent talks and other meetings/events;
Attends staff meetings as may be requested or as established by school policy. Performs those activities listed in the teacher’s handbook as appropriate and applicable; Understands and complies with the school policies, rules, and regulations;
Performs such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the CEO and/or, principal.
2. Staff Relations
Under Direct supervision of the school Principal;
Works effectively and closely with other teachers and other team members in the classroom, or other school sponsored events
Participates in some weekend events by supporting family activities and school sponsorship
Accepts constructive criticism from Principal, and Lead teacher.
3. Parent-Teacher Relations
Talks to all family members/guardians pleasantly and respectfully
Makes all families feel welcome and a member of the HOK community
Assists Lead teacher to facilitate parent teacher conferences two times a year:
Assists Lead teacher to communicate with families about their children on a day to day basis through use of parent letters, white board and brief conversation at the time of pick-up and drop-off.
Assists Lead teachers to communicate with families about ESL planning and classroom organization through use of newsletters, parent letter, bulletin boards and hand outs.
4. Professionalism
Welcomes visitors in the building or classrooms
Answers questions professionally and positively for inquiring guests
Presents at parents conferences (may or may not be applicable)
Follows HOK Staff Handbook, rules and policies and procedures accordingly
Responsible for approximately 185 days of instruction and teachers professional development, plus orientation and in-service prior to school starting
Demonstrates interest in professional growth and participates in ways to support professional growth
Communicates effectively with parents and staff
Shows positive attitude to parents and staff
Prepares positive and peaceful working environment
Arrives at work promptly for scheduled times
Keeps school internal information confidentiality
Requirements:
University graduate (Bachelors Degree minimum)
ESL Teacher Training Certification – TESL, TEFL, CELTA, etc. with a minimum of 100 hours of coursework and practicum time from an accredited ESL training institution
Two years of full time ESL teaching experience
