Social studies teacher for elementary students
at Shang Learning in Beijing
Are you a teacher looking for something more meaningful than ESL work?
We are looking for part-time teachers to work about 12 hours per week with students ages 8-12. This will involve teaching group classes with a maximum of 8 students (there are 3-5 students), and spending 10-20 minutes after the class writing a report. We are especially looking for people to teach our Young Learners Program, which is a wide ranging social studies and humanities course with the underlying goal of teaching soft skills (grit, teamwork, interpersonal communication) for Chinese students age 8-12. Students in this course would meet twice per week for 2 hours each time, and the schedule would be stable for one full semester (about 16-20 weeks).

Job requirements:
• Native English speakers from the USA are strongly preferred, although outstanding candidates from other countries and with other mother tongues will be considered.
• Professional education experience is required, and candidates with experience working as educators in the USA are preferred. Experience teaching in an elementary school or a middle school in the USA is a distinct advantage.
• At least 2 years of full-time teaching experience.
• A degree in a related field
We have two locations in Beijing: one near Siyuanqiao (a 10 minute walk from Jiangtai subway station) and one near Houshayu Subway station in Shunyi. Classes occur at one of our two campuses, and you would be "based" at one of these two campuses. We have a small, close-knit team, and we have flexible schedules. Each of our courses has plans pre-made, so you don't need to spend much time creating content for the courses. Starting pay rate is 250-350RMB/hour for part time candidates, with increases to high pay bands based on total number of teaching hours. The schedule would involve teaching on evenings and weekends. We plan the classes in advance, so there won't be any last minute changes. We don't focus on language teaching (ESL) very much; instead our main focus is on soft skills. We aim to empower students with the skills they will need to succeed in the future.
