Guangzhou Xiang Jiang International High School, with its vertically-aligned Advanced Placement curriculum, including the College Board’s new AP Capstone Diploma Program, seeks a passionate, committed teacher for the following position open in the Fall 2019:

*One ESL Teacher to teach English as a foreign language to grades 11 and 12. This position also teaches AP English Literature and AP Seminar (as part of the AP Capstone Diploma Program).

This is a full-time position with long-term tenure dependent on performance.

XJIHS is part of a private boarding school (Xiang Jiang Secondary School) established in 2008. The campus is located on Jade-Green Island, 20 miles (30 km) from downtown Guangzhou, in southeastern China’s Guangdong province, also home to Hong Kong. Jade-Green Island is a quiet, private, and very attractive residential area. Xiang Jiang Secondary School currently employs more than 100 teachers and staff members serving approximately 1,200 middle and high school students. The campus covers an area of more than 100 acres, with a variety of facilities and advanced equipment, allowing XJHS to ensure a top-tier international educational experience for all its student and staff. The International School was completely renovated during the summer of 2018, and all academic and support programs were consolidated into a single, independent facility.

At XJIHS we pride ourselves on our rigorous curriculum, teacher-advisory system, in-house TOEFL, SAT, and college counseling programs, and our strong international exchange relationships with top-ranked American high schools though collaboration with SPIRAL International. IXIHS ensures that each student will be enrolled in a well-known overseas higher education institution upon graduation. The Class of 2018 had a college placement rate of 78% admitted to top 50 U.S. colleges and universities and 100% in top 100 U.S. colleges and universities.

Responsibilities:
• Classroom teaching up to 16 hours per week (25 periods) plus 4 hours of office hours per week and other supervisory activities as assigned. Total weekly working time is up to 30-35 hours,
• Provide mentoring/tutoring to students who have demonstrated needs.
• Provide guidance to students for various club and community activities

A qualified candidate will:
• Have at least a BA degree (a Master’s degree preferred) from an accredited college or university with a major or minor in the specific required area of teaching;
• Have AT LEAST TWO YEARS of secondary school teaching experience (student teaching may count).
• Have a teaching license in the required areas of teaching;
• Be able to communicate effectively in English with Chinese high school students;
• Ideally have prior experience or familiarity with Chinese culture and Chinese students;

Salary and Benefits include:
• Salary: 22,000 to 25,000 RMB (equivalent to $3,206 to $3,644 USD) per month, or an annual salary of $32,060 to $36,440 USD, based on qualifications.
• Two round-trip international tickets per school year (up to 20,000 RMB or $3,225 USD).
• Housing allowance of 2,400 RMB per month.
• Free shuttle pass to downtown Guangzhou.
• Holiday bonus (up to 9,500 RMB, equivalent to $1,532 USD).
• Insurance package (2,000 RMB, equivalent to $322 USD).

Effective Date:
August 20, 2019 – June 30, 2020
A one-year contract is offered to all newly-hired teachers, renewable for the two following years.
