Volunteers for Medical Research

Freelance at Bickler Hypoxia Laboratory SZU Limited in Shenzhen

A medical lab in Shenzhen University needs volunteers for regular testing. The aim of this study is to validate non-invasive devices called Pulse Oximeters which measure blood oxygen by shining light through skin. However, the real meaning of your involvement is to help us check if the devices developed by different companies can work accurately on people your race and skin tone. Your support and assistance can effectively stop bad devices from entering the medical market. Your contribution to this medical research thus serve a big purpose!

For Blood Referenced Test:
A radial cannula will be inserted into the artery in your wrist under local anesthesia. Sensors will be attached to your fingers, forehead, chest or ears. You will be asked to breathe rapidly through a mouthpiece with a breathing tube with your nose clipped. The air you breathe will be adjusted to lower your blood oxygen saturation from the normal value of 96-100% to as low as 70%. During the process, 20-25 small blood samples (each about 1ml) will be withdrawn from the wrist arterial catheter. Total blood sampling would be around 40 ml. Total time taken for the entire test is around 1 hour, including test set-up.

Compensation:
An amount of 700RMB shall be given to you for the above blood test, and 200RMB for the same test without blood sampling.

Volunteers to take note:
- Recruiting male or female DARK skin (African origin) ethnicity of ages between 21-45;
- Non-smokers (smokers will excluded from the test with no compensation);
- No nail polish for ALL female volunteers;
- Volunteers to take a full meal before the test;
- Basic medical examination before the test;
- Volunteers will be rejected if pregnant, have undergone an abortion or suffered a miscarriage
within the last 4 weeks.
